Chicago Farmers Market - Setting the Stage for Summer 2023

One of the best parts of being a realtor – in addition to meeting so many wonderful people – is getting to know the amazing neighborhoods of Chicago. Every neighborhood has a unique story to tell and particular things to offer. My favorite things to explore are the Chicago Farmers Markets. It’s a sure sign that warmer temperatures and sunny weather are upon us when farmers set up their tents to sell their seasonal produce. In just a few short weeks, we can begin enjoying local produce, flowers, baked items, meats, and cheeses, as well as items from many Midwestern artisans.

Beginning in April, you can find a Farmers Market in Chicago almost every day of the week in the morning, afternoon, or evening. Some of the most convenient and offering a large variety of items are the markets located in downtown Chicago! These include Federal Plaza Farmers Market, City Market at Daley Plaza, the Farmers Market at the Museum of Contemporary Art, and the South Loop Farmers Market

Daley Plaza City Market

One of the longest running Farmers Markets in Chicago. It brightens your day. It’s a great spot to have lunch with a number of options including crepes, grilled cheese, sweets, fruits, breads, etc.

Nicer weather is a great motivation to get out and explore what the city has to offer. Whether you decide to go North, South, East, or West, you’ll find some wonderful Farmers Markets.

The Green City Market is a 501 (c) (3) not for profit organization. It’s been around for about 20 years and, according to their website, it’s Chicago’s largest and first year-round sustainable farmers market, as well as the first farmers market in the country to require all of its farmers to be certified by a nationally recognized 3rd party agency. The Green City Market has multiple locations in Lincoln Park and the West Loop. The markets host educational programs and chef demos to teach customers how to integrate seasonal produce in home cooking. Many of them also offer live music.

Farmers Markets in Chicago bring together communities, local and regional farmers, as well as local artisans and food purveyors. By spending your money at these local markets, you’re supporting your community, as well as preserving local jobs! In addition, you’re getting the freshest, locally grown vegetables, fruits, meats, poultry, eggs, and dairy products available. There are so many farmers markets in Chicago. Visiting your local farmers market or any Chicago farmers market is a great way to celebrate spring and summer and get to know more about our wonderful Chicago neighborhoods. I’ve only touched base on a few here, but you can find the complete 2023 listing of city sponsored Farmers Markets here: https://www.chicago.gov/city/en/depts/dca/supp_info/markets.html
